Orlando City is working on opening a new resort in Westgate in 2019, according to the company’s new CEO, Brian Bickford.
Orlando City SC, which announced last week it will be moving into the former Westgate Resorts complex at the end of the season, has been in talks with Westgate over a year.
Orlando is the first Major League Soccer team to open a new west gate in the city.
The new Westgate resort will be called Westgate Resort at the east end of Orlando’s Westgate Park and will include about 1,000 rooms, according the team’s press release.
Bickfords said the new facility will offer guests a variety of activities including golf, tennis, basketball, swimming, tennis courts, a bike park, and other amenities.
Bickson said the resort is slated to open in 2019.
“We’re thrilled to have a Westgate location at our new home, and it will offer Orlando City fans a truly unparalleled opportunity to experience the best of Southern Florida,” BickFords said in the release.
Westgate is scheduled to open later this year.
Bickleford told ESPN last week that the team is “excited to begin the next chapter of our expansion journey and welcome our new fans to the city.”
WestGate is also scheduled to be the location of the Orlando City-owned soccer team’s first home match next season.
Last season, the team began playing at the former west gate site in the fall of 2017 and is expected to open the resort by the end the year.
Westgate is the team home since the end on March 7, 2019.
